If you are a self-motivated Project Architect with a minimum of eight years of experience and share our commitment to create regionally relevant and inspiring work in a collaborative environment - we are looking for you. EDA's expectations of a Project Architect are to plan, develop and manage the production of construction documents; provide technical design leadership based on job specific requirements and assist in project administration during and following construction. Applicants should show experience in all aspects of the design process, be interested in the various building types and services conducted by EDA and have a desire to develop great design solutions as part of a focused team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage project’s technical design and document production
  • Deliver high-quality contract documents (drawings, specifications) that can be readily interpreted by AHJ’s (authorities having jurisdiction) and easily utilized and understood by construction contractors
  • Communicate effectively with project consultants and coordinate work
  • Collaborate with project team members to deliver project on-time and on-budget, ensure a satisfied client and meet design excellence criteria
  • Manage bidding and permitting process alongside project manager including responding to AHJ comments, bidder’s questions and issuing addenda
  • Construction contract administration including interpretation of the contract documents, review and coordination of shop drawings, periodic review of construction progress to evaluate general conformance with contract requirements and evaluation of the construction schedule
  • Work with project manager, owner and contractor during construction to provide effective change management, respond to RFI’s and prepare ASI’s, PR’s and CCD’s
  • Assist with integrating cloud-based collaborative technologies as well as other emerging trends and tools
  • Ensure project meets clients’ BIM requirements and delivery standards
  • Coordinate audits to ensure health and accuracy of the BIM model throughout the project cycle

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) from an accredited program
  • At least eight years in an architectural firm with demonstrated experience collaborating with team members such as project architects, project managers, job captains, design architects, interior designers, consulting engineers and other production staff
  • Knowledge of architectural detailing, building systems, integration of the contract documents (including drawings, specification, contracts), building codes and current construction standards
  • Proven ability to successfully manage bidding and permitting process alongside Project Manager
  • Construction contract administration experience including contract document interpretation and change management
  • Experience with developing sustainable and high-performance buildings and third-party systems certification processes such as LEED, WELL and LBC
  • Proficient in Revit / BIM modeling and project deployment
  • Well organized, meticulous and detail oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Architectural license preferred

Our preferred candidate is creative, organized, earned at least a bachelor’s degree in interior design and has over five years of experience. We have a strong preference for NCIDQ certification. This position is for ‘in-office’ work only and not considered a 'remote worker' position. We require this because we believe it enhances collaboration opportunities and encourages in-office cultural engagement which in turn provides you an opportunity to grow in your craft while improving overall productivity.

Position Expectations

  • Responsible for generating concepts for interiors projects with visual design concepts/materials, special design concepts and requirements, floor plan analysis, furniture and equipment planning, perform building site / condition studies and work with engineering teams on integrated structural, mechanical and electrical components
  • Engage in the project design and construction as required
  • Work with senior-level designers on complex projects

Minimum Qualification

  • Five years relevant work experience
  • Professional degree in interior design or architecture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification(s) such as NCIDQ
  • Eight or more years of experience

  • Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) such as BIM drafting, modeling and rendering (including Revit and SketchUp)

  • Experience in the craft of construction
  • Contextual and environmental / sustainable design experience
  • Work well with others as a team leader, team member or client liaison
  • Understanding of / experience with all phases of design development (Project Pre-design/Programming, Project Design/Process, Document Production/Coordination, Construction Administration)
