EDA partnered with West Valley City to take on the challenge of creating a dynamic town center with a rich cultural identity. With a welcoming outdoor plaza situated at the intersection of Market Street and Lehman Avenue, the new West Valley City Police Department creates a landmark at the gateway of a walkable and pedestrian-friendly Market Street.

The new civic building creates a place that is open to the community, highlighting inclusivity and transparency between the police department and the public. The building incorporates state-of-the-art technology, security, and service while still being approachable to the public. Uniting staff, previously spread amongst four buildings, creates a cohesive work/police force internally and externally.

Focused attention was given to specialized areas such as a new forensics lab, forensics firing range, and a highly sophisticated chain-of-evidence documentation storage space situated to protect evidence from tampering and create transparency in the justice process. Soft spaces for the staff such as lounge areas and an outdoor patio create comfortable places for the users. There are also quiet rooms and break areas throughout the building to mitigate the high stress of the job with spaces allocated for decompression. The extensive natural daylight throughout the building as well as a fitness room provide a wellness component that was important for West Valley City to incorporate for its police force.
