Built for the 2002 Olympic Games, the Olympic Park complex in Park City represents one of the most prominent expressions of Utah Modernism in the Salt Lake Region. Comprising the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center and the jump and track facilities for Bobsled, Skeleton, Luge, Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined events, the Olympic Park received an AIA Utah Merit Award for master planning, and established Park City as an international winter sports training and competition venue.

The project composes local and enduring materials into dynamic, sculptural forms. Cast-in-place architectural concrete reflects the site’s geology, while copper shingles evoke the mining history of the Salt Lake Valley. Arranged in natural geometric planes, the design conforms to and compliments the landscape, working within the natural topography to express a rugged modernism capable of standing up to the mountains.

Today, the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center houses two museums: the Alf Engen Ski Museum and the George Eccles Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum. The design includes a 2,000 s.f. multi-purpose space for lectures, film presentations, classes, and meetings, as well as temporary exhibit spaces, offices, conference rooms, and a gift shop.
