As part of a master planned community complex that includes a library and future city hall, the J.L Sorenson Recreation Center is the flagship recreation facility for the rapidly growing communities of Herriman, Riverton, and Bluffdale, in Salt Lake County, Utah.

In order to accommodate the county’s current needs and anticipated growth, EDA’s design combines state-of-the-art recreation facilities with sustainable strategies. The project’s focus on conserving energy, minimizing water usage and waste, and utilizing solar energy earned the recreation center LEED Gold Certification.

The over 100,000 SF facility includes a natatorium with leisure pool and lap pool; a double gymnasium; a large fitness area with aerobic studios and an elevated running track; a dance room; a child care center; party rooms; six racquetball courts. In addition, an activities lounge houses social gathering space, informal meeting areas, bouldering wall, interactive games, and a direct visual connection to the natatorium and gym.  and a public plaza that is shared with the Herriman Library.
