The police headquarters tackles the challenge of creating a dynamic town center with a rich cultural identity rooted at the heart of the city. The design creates a piece of civic architecture that will foster community, highlighting inclusivity and transparency between the police department and the public. With a welcoming outdoor plaza situated at the intersection of Market Street and Lehman Avenue, the new West Valley City Police Headquarters creates a landmark at the gateway of a walkable and pedestrian-friendly Market Street.

The new building incorporates state-of-the-art technology, security, and service while still being approachable to the public. The headquarters unites staff, who were previously spread amongst four buildings, to create a cohesive work/police force internally and externally. EDA’s design is based on extensive workshops with each department that ensure all the various needs (current and future) are met in the new building.

Special attention is given to features such as a forensics lab and forensics firing range, along with a highly sophisticated chain of evidence documentation. Along with the specialized program, EDA made sure to incorporate lounge spaces and an outdoor patio as well as quiet rooms for the staff throughout the building to help mitigate a sometimes high-stress job with areas for decompression. The extensive natural daylight throughout the building, as well as a fitness room help, provide a wellness component that is important for the city to incorporate for its police force.
