Sweetwater County, Wyoming faced a critical need: to provide secure and efficient Sheriff administration, district court, and circuit court facilities with the capacity to meet the county’s next 20+ years of growth. After thorough study, EDA developed a Judicial Facilities Needs Assessment and a Judicial Facilities Master Development Plan that met current and projected caseloads while realizing significant staffing efficiencies and financial savings.
The resulting 55,475 sq. ft. Phase 1 development at the existing county jail site included construction of two circuit courts, a drug court, county attorney offices, public defenders offices, a storage building for the sheriff’s special operations vehicles, and a new sheriff’s administration building with an emergency operations center. To help reinforce the community identity of Sweetwater, the design draws on the unique geology, local resources, and cultural history of the county.
